Refillable pressurized containers
Please be aware that the following items must never be recycled in your Blue Box or traditional curb-side programs due to serious safety concerns:
Aerosol cans that are not completely empty (such as those containing hairspray, spray paint, shaving cream, canned air, Silly String, cooking and cleaning sprays, sunblock, insect repellent, and so forth).
Propane Tanks
Oxygen Tanks
Helium Tanks
Any pressurized container
Since the majority of their contents are highly flammable, these pressurized containers pose a serious threat to public safety both at landfills and in recycling facilities.
What else can you do with them?
Cans containing aerosols should be thrown away in the trash after being sure they are empty.
Return the propane and oxygen tanks to the filling station. Never throw these away or recycle them.
Pressurized containers: Before throwing them in the trash, make sure they are empty and that the valve has been taken out.
Please follow the proper disposal procedures for aerosol cans, propane tanks, oxygen tanks, and other pressurized containers to help us keep our employees safe.
